This American Life Removes Episodes With Ira Glass in Blackface

By Nate Odenkirk | Staff Writer

The popular radio show This American Life removed controversial episodes where the host, Ira Glass, can be heard wearing blackface. Following the backlash, Mr. Glass issued the following statement:

“Regret”

Act one: From WBEZ Chicago, it’s This American Apology.

Act two: I’m sorry to those who felt offended when I wore blackface.

Act three. I’m Ira Glass.

While producers at This American Life declined to say exactly the specific episodes with the host in blackface, internal deliberations suggest it’s “more than ten, but less than 100.”

Ira Glass has still not apologized for a similar 2014 incident, where Mr. Glass was heard wearing a stereotypical sombrero and poncho in an episode about the Guatemalan diaspora. ♦
